Your origin story in Torment: Tides of Numenera is insane

The writers for Torment: Tides of Numenera earned their paychecks today. This story trailer is nuts. For an introduction, this ain't a slow wagon ride into Helgen, Skyrim. This isn't a doomsayer hollering at a crowd of peasants, The Witcher 3. This isn't even waking up with amnesia in a morgue, Planescape: Torment. This is some old crazy "you're the final castoff of the Changing God, and you awaken, falling from the sky" type stuff. Have you ever heard of an origin story like that? I haven't. And I've been looking.

The hook in my cheek just set. I'm not getting out of this one now.

Also, I can't prove it yet, but the illustrations for this video look like they were done by the same artist handling the intro illustrations from The Witcher 3. A wonderful choice. And! The narrator sounds like the grizzled narrator from Darkest Dungeon. So good. If these aren't the very same voice and artist, then they're definitely copping the style to good effect.

Check out this Torment: Tides of Numenera story trailer, like, now now, and watch how a man became a god, the Changing God, seeking knowledge and wisdom, but accumulating apathy and ruin. The drawing a castaway lineage through the millennia, right down to you, as you fall from the freaking sky.

Torment: Tides of Numenera will be available February 28 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Old school RPGs of this caliber don't come along every year.
