Xbox held its latest Developer Direct stream yesterday, showcasing four games coming in 2026, with the headliner undoubtedly being Fable, the reimagining of the classic RPG series from Playground Games. And yes, that is the same studio that develops Forza. Based on the new gameplay teaser and details for Fable, you can easily see that Playground Games is stepping outside its box.
Fable is an open-world fantasy action RPG set in the fairytale world of Albion that is fully alive. During the livestream we got a great look at character customization, combat, the morality system, and how each NPC is unique. This looks to be a massive RPG, leaning into life sim elements as well, such as blacksmithing, buying properties and renting them out, hiring employees, romantic relationships, and more.
Thankfully, Fable is nearing the finish line of development, with a release planned for this Fall on Xbox (including day one on Game Pass Ultimate), Steam, and PlayStation 5. And yes, it will be released for all platforms on the same date.
