Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown looks to bounce back in year two

In an hour-long developer diary, publisher NACON and developer KT Racing have revealed what is next for MMO racing game, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, not only for the upcoming Season 4, but an entire second year of content and updates as well. When released last September, it’s fair to say that a big portion the player base was less than thrilled with the product they received. I’ve been lurking in the game’s subreddit and social media updates for a while now, taking the pulse of the community, hoping eventually there would be a good time to jump in. I recently purchased the game on sale, as it appears that time is fast approaching with the updates coming over the next year.

For starters, Season 4 of Year 1 one begins tomorrow, July 23rd, and introduces the Casino, where players can wager their virtual money on slots or poker (which isn’t being added until mid-season). Players can also earn an exclusive car from the Casino, along with other cosmetic items. The new season also introduces Stock Races, which is only open to factory-standard cars. Other additions include improvements to spoiler behavior, the ability to hide the HUD, Group Ping for better navigating when playing in a group, and five new cars. Of course, it wouldn’t be a new season of content in any live service game without a fresh battle pass, which has both a premium and free pathway.

Looking even further ahead, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will transition to Year 2 sometime in October of this year and, through July 2026, will add several player-requested features, including cab missions, Official Racing Centers to facilitate PvP races, player houses, an upgrade to the game’s engine (ha!), and lots of quality-of-life updates. In addition to the seasonal content, which will remain free except for the Solar Pass, the team at KT Racing continues to work on in-game economy balancing, optimization for all platforms, and working to implement both cross-platform and offline play.

They’re not giving up on the game, and as an outsider who’s been looking in, it appears that they’re headed in the right direction. I’m willing to support that. You can check out the full developer diary below for a more detailed breakdown of what’s to come.
