Free-to-play shooter Splitgate 2 begins open beta phase next week
You might remember Splitgate taking the gaming world by storm for a while back in 2021. The free-to-play portal FPS has a sequel in the oven, and it sounds like it is just about ready to go. Developer 1047 Games announced that an open beta for Splitgate 2 will go live on May 22nd across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, and it will stay live through the game’s 1.0 launch sometime in June, with no progress wipes whatsoever. So, essentially it is a soft launch.
1047 also detailed its post-launch plans for Splitgate 2, which will include monthly map releases, weapons, game modes, limited-time events, and a few surprises along the way. They also recently announced “The Lab” map creator for community-based content.
I was able to participate in a playtest several months ago and came away hopeful for the sequel, though I needed to see more from it. Check out an open beta teaser below:
