More On: The First Descendant

We’re less than a week away from the July 2nd launch of Nexon’s free-to-play looter shooter, The First Descendant, which is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Today, thanks to a new PlayStation Blog post from the game’s producer, Beomjun Lee, we now have a clearer picture of what to expect at release.

A total of 19 Descendants will be playable at launch, including 14 originals and five Ultimate Descendants, which are said to be high-performance versions of a handful of the original characters. The core gameplay loop will consist of looting and shooting, of course, with the goal of developing your own unique character builds. Five new biomes not seen in the previous beta tests have been added for launch, as well as 16 new endgame Instance Dungeons, and 16 Void Intercept Battles, which are large boss raids that Nexon says are the highlight of The First Descendant.

There appears to have been a bit of a graphical glow-up on PS5 just in time for launch to boot. A new Balanced graphical mode will be available, in addition to Fidelity and Performance. The team is also tapping into the features of Unreal Engine 5, adding Virtual Shadow Mapping, options for ray tracing, and AMD Frame Generation, if those are your cuppas.

I’m looking forward to descending on July 2nd, as The First Descendant is looking like another free-to-play game that’ll try to rule my gaming life.
