There have been about a million game announcements this week, thanks to the new Triple-i Initiative showcase. Mixed in with the lot was an isometric twin-stick shooter called Kill Knight from PlaySide Studios. The PR headline is positioning it as “Hades meets DOOM”, but what immediately came to mind for me after watching the announcement trailer was Housemarque’s Nex Machina – a game I adore.
In Kill Knight, you play as a banished and deceased knight, fighting through five layers of challenge in a bid kill the last angel. Using various weapons you will blast through hordes of demonic enemies in fast-paced “push forward” combat. Like Nex Machina, Kill Knight includes online global leaderboards so you can chase high scores to prove you are the best (or worst) Kill Knight.
Kill Knight will come to consoles sometime this year, though no specific platforms were announced. Check out the trailer below and tell me it doesn’t scream Nex Machina. Be warned, however, the video includes lots of flashing light patterns if you’re sensitive to that.
