It wouldn’t be a proper iteration of The Game Awards without a compelling shadow drop, or stealth release, if you will. This year’s show has graced us with the release of free-to-play competitive arena shooter THE FINALS from Embark Studios. After hosting a successful closed beta in recent months that was enjoyed by millions of players, the game has officially launched across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
I was able to participate in the beta several weeks back and walked away impressed. The game features fully destructible environments that create some fun water cooler moments thanks to its heist-style PvP gameplay. Embark is comprised of a many former DICE employees who worked on the Battlefield franchise, and you can see that pedigree come through in both the environmental destruction and tight gunplay.
Of course, as a live service title, the game’s first season of post-launch content is also now available featuring a battle pass with both free and premium rewards. Check out the new season one trailer:
