More On: Immortals of Aveum

Today, EA Originals and developer Ascendant Studios have shared a new deep dive video into the world, combat, and story of upcoming first-person magic shooter Immortals of Aveum. The new video packs a lot into a mere four minutes, but the result is our best look thus far at the gorgeous new FPS – seriously, watch this one on a 4K screen.

In Immortals of Aveum, you assume the role of Jak, a Magnus (magic wielder) who has the rare ability to control all three forms of magic – blue, red, and green. Blue magic is force magic, designed for mid-to-long range encounters. Red is chaos magic which essentially acts as your magical shotgun for when you need an up close and personal touch. While green magic features homing projectiles for when you’re on the move. There are also more powerful attacks called Furies that dish out far more damage, but they require you to refill your Fury Mana between uses. Finally, Jak also wields an ultimate attack known as Immolate that is a laser beam of all three magic types combined that incinerates everything in its path. I do prefer my magical enemies extra crispy.

The game features 25 spells and 80 talents on its progression tree, allowing you to mix and match to suit your playstyle. You’ll also be acquiring different Sigils (gun bracelets) along the journey. These are in addition to totems, rings, and bracers that are all combined to give you stat buffs.

From a narrative perspective, Jak will find himself amid humanity’s endless battle over the control of magic known as the Everwar. The world of Aveum sounds like a big one, containing three hub cities where you can pick up missions, customize your gear, and fraternize with the locals when you need a break from flat out saving the world.
