HITMAN studio IO Interactive is making an online fantasy RPG

Developer IO Interactive announced today that they are currently working on an online fantasy RPG simply codenamed "Project Fantasy". I'll bet you didn't have that on your video game bingo card! Project Fantasy will be a service title that lives for many years, similar to their recent trilogy of HITMAN games, which was recently re-organized and re-branded as HITMAN: World of Assassination. This new fantasy RPG is in development alongside IO's other major project - a game based off the 007 (James Bond) IP.

As to why IO is choosing to make a fantasy game, the studio says it goes back to what inspired them to even make games in the first place:

"For many, this journey is also a deeply personal one that began long before we started making games for a living – and it started with the fantasy genre. From the “Fighting Fantasy” books compelling you to choose your path, alone, against wizards, lizards, and thief kings. To the togetherness, camaraderie, agony, and delight found around the tabletop. For some it meant taking the role of a game master: Part storyteller, part AI opponent, part guide, part villain. For everyone around that table it meant creativity, imagination, building a world together, and a shared goal in creating a great game experience."
