The popular SteamWorld franchise is continuing its expansion into new genres, as publisher Thunderful and developer The Station announced today that city-building game SteamWorld Build is headed to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, and Nintendo Switch later this year. A demo is already available over on the game's Steam page.

SteamWorld Build lets players construct the mining town of their dreams – build houses, keep your citizens fed, and keep them entertained. Players will also need to venture into the abandoned mine nestled beneath their town to extract valuable resources that are necessary for expansion.

Thankfully, SteamWorld Build is being built (pun intended?) simultaneously on both PC and consoles, so there shouldn’t be any of those issues with wonky controls that don’t port over properly. This looks absolutely wonderful and has instantly become one of my most anticipated games of 2023.

The SteamWorld series began with 2010’s SteamWorld Tower Defense on Nintendo DSi, which spawned four sequels, the most recent being deck-builder SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech. In addition to Build, a stylized third-person co-op action game called SteamWorld Headhunter is also in development.
