Citadel: Forged with Fire taking its Harry Potter hats and broomstick flight to consoles

More On: Citadel: Forged With Fire

Citadel: Forged with Fire takes the broomstick flight onto PS4 and Xbox One on October 11. They announced it was "coming soon" to PS4, like, two years ago. But hey, video game development is hard. Stuff happens.

Ignus is a charming but utterly mixed-up world of online high fantasy RPG-isms. You've got your pointy Galdalfian wizard hats, old school broomstick witch flight, weirdly smooth-looking dragons, bobble-headed pixies, and sparkly unicorns. Seriously, Citadel's art style is all over the place. It can be difficult distinguishing its screenshots from any other fantasy role-playing game's screenshots out there. Yet the fact that it is all over the place can open up a lot of imaginative doors.

Along with spellcrafting, it's got a really great castle-building tool set, too. Honestly, harvesting resources and building a fantastical stone and wood keep was the best time I had when previewing Citadel in 2017. And you can build just about anywhere. I remember building a sweet-looking place on the edge of a lake, backed up against a sheer cliff wall. Another person on the server had leveled half the local forests just to build an insane staircase up to their wizard's tower at the top of that same cliff.

I rarely saw anyone. Mostly I just saw the results of their construction efforts. Most players put up purely functional square sheds. A few others went all out and busted out some of the craziest castles this side of Mad King Ludwig. But it's been two years since early access. The PC audience feels like the developers have done a fair-to-middling job since then. Hopefully the server populations make for more interesting interactions, too, and that bringing Citadel to PS4 and Xbox broadens the audience.

Again, Citadel: Forged with Fire hits PS4 and Xbox One on October 11.
