Breath of the Wild: Master Trials DLC is now available

More On: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

If finding all those Korok Seeds isn't keeping you busy during The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's post-game, fear not! The first of two announced DLC packs for Link's newest adventure is available today. The Master Trials brings even more depth to Hyrule. Most notably, a dungeon which is composed of 45 separate rooms has been added. In this dungeon, players must prove their fighting ability by clearing each room of enemies before being allowed to move forward. What makes this interesting is that Link is stripped of his awesome gear, forcing us to fight smart.

If this seems like a lot of work, it's for good reason. When this dungeon is completed successfully, the Master Sword will permanently glow. Originally, the Master Sword would only enter this state within dungeons, around Guardians, and so on. While it glows, the blade of evil's bane is two times stronger than normal. That's a whopping 60 attack power, over the standard 30.

One huge and new dungeon not enough? How about the whole game with extra difficulty? The Master Trials also enables hard mode for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Enemies now regenerate health mid-battle, and are more perceptive of Link's whereabouts if he's sneaking around. Exclusive to hard mode, enemies on floating platforms now exist throughout Hyrule. Taking these airborne baddies out yields a worthwhile treasure, similar to clearing a Bokoblin camp.

The Master Trials DLC also adds a feature called the Hero's Path. Enabling it draws out Link's path on the map of Hyrule, depicting where he has and hasn't traveled on foot. On top of this handy update, players will also be able to find a hidden item called the Travel Medallion which can set a custom fast-travel point based on Link's current location.

Finally, some new items have been added to Hyrule. While most of the new items are cosmetic fun (like Majora's Mask), the Korok's Mask is probably the most useful. With the Korok Mask equipped, players will more easily locate Korok Seeds. With 900 Korok Seeds in the wild, this is a blessing for all the lovely completionists out there.

At $19.99, you can purchase the Expansion Pass for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This includes The Master Trials - available now - and The Champion's Ballad, which is out in December.
