August 22nd, 2013 will be the last day the
PC Marketplace will be open, according to the Xbox.com support site. That doesn't mean Games for Windows is going away. You'll still be able to access anything you have previously purchased via the client. They are doing this change in part with the change over from the Microsoft Points system.
As much as they tried, Microsoft could never really get a good foot hold in the digital distribution channel. In fact, I don't know anyone that actually bought a game in the PC Marketplace. Now, they could come back with something else, which we'll see if they do in the future.
