Sony, we need to have a talk.
Back in my childhood, I went and saw a film by the name of The Wizard, and it was not a good movie for anyone who was mature. For me? That movie was the best thing ever. How could 8-year-old me not love that film? A story about a kid going to win the Nintendo World Championships? Amazing!
34-year-old me now looks back on that kid and shakes his head, especially when I've watched it again and realized that it was nothing more than an advertisement for Nintendo products such as Super Mario Bros 3, Ninja Gaiden, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and a few others. Of course, everyone remembers the iconic scene where the movie's villain, Lucas, pulls out the Power Glove, says the infamous "It's so bad" line, and Nintendo started seeing dollar signs.
Now, it would appear that Sony wants to make this product in a fashion that isn't bad. Yesterday, a page appeared on the official United States Patent page that shows Sony has filed a patent for a glove controller of some type. Chances are extremely high that this is ahead of the launch of Sony VR. We've seen the HTC Vive and how it works with its controllers, but this appears to legitimately be a glove controller.
Sony, you've got one chance to not mess this up and gives us all the Power Glove we've craved since we were kids. Here's hoping you come through.
