The NBA 2K franchise is Gunnin' for That #1 Spot

While this announcement's connection to the video game world is tenuous, 2K Sports partnered with Director Adam "My name's MCA, I got a license to kill" Yauch from the Beastie Boys in the filming of Gunnin' for That #1 Spot.  This high school basketball documentary follows eight of the country's premier players to an "Elite 24" showdown back in September 1, 2006, in Harlem's Rucker Park -- all spliced together with a hip-hop, jazz, and break beat-infused soundtrack.  Jason Argent, 2K Sports' VP of Marketing fit in a plug by stating that, "Gunnin' for That #1 Spot gets to the heart and soul of hoops in the same manner we approach our top rated NBA 2K franchise and 2K Sports titles."

June 25, 2008 – 2K Sports, in partnership with Adam Yauch, also known as MCA from the Beastie Boys, and Oscilloscope Laboratories, today announced details for the much-anticipated premiere of the high school basketball documentary, GUNNIN’ FOR THAT #1 SPOT.  Directed by Yauch, the film follows eight of the country's premier high school basketball players as they are adored by fans, wooed by colleges and sneaker companies, and groomed to be in the spotlight.  Blending this generation’s basketball players with a mix of raw hip-hop, jazz and break beats, Yauch’s unique kinetic filmmaking presents GUNNIN’ FOR THAT #1 SPOT as an explosively entertaining look at soon-to-be household names.

GUNNIN’ FOR THAT #1 SPOT centers on the inaugural “Elite 24” all-star game on September 1, 2006 where the top 24 high school basketball players in the nation met at Harlem’s legendary Rucker Park. The documentary follows many of this year’s top college players, including Michael Beasley (Kansas State), Kevin Love (UCLA), Jerryd Bayless (Arizona) and Donte Green (Syracuse), along with future stars Tyreke Evans, Brandon Jennings, Kyle Singler (Duke) and Lance Stephenson as they prepared to showcase their skills and competed to be the best.
