The Spellfire Sorcerer subclass in Heroes of Faerun embodies the Forgotten Realms' magical Weave more than any sorcerer ever has

The Weave is magic in the Forgotten Realms. It's the thread and the loom that makes magic happen in this particular Dungeons & Dragons world. Yet the Weave hasn't manifested itself in any meaningful way before. Yes, it's why you can cast spells, in theory, but it's not a gameplay mechanic.

The Spellfire Sorcerer changes that—and this subclass is found in the Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerun – Player Expansion. The Weave is finally a physical manifestation of the Weave (a blue radiant flame) in the form of Radiant energy. Spellfire is a power source that heals, burns, shields, and fuels magic. Other sorcerer subclasses have origins in draconic blood, aberrant mutations, wild magic, etc., but Spellfire Sorcery says, Your magic is the Weave itself.

Also, it's the only Sorcerer subclass that is built around spending Sorcery Points as a trigger: Every time you spend a Sorcery Point, you also burst with spellfire. Boost a spell and hand out temp hit points. Boost a spell and ping an enemy. Boost a spell and trigger defensive effects.

Spellfire Sorcery (Sorcerer)

"Wield Raw Magic." That's what you do.

Level 3: Spellfire Burst

  • Bolstering Flames. Spend at least 1 Sorcery Point and give someone temporary HP.
  • Radiant Fire. Spend at least 1 Sorcery Point and inflict Radiant damage on someone.

Level 3: Spellfire Spells. At levels 3, 5, 7, and 9, you gain always-prepared spells like Cure Wounds, Dispel Magic, Fire Shield, and Flame Strike. Healing, disruption, protection, blaster.

Level 6: Absorb Spells. You always have Counterspell prepared. Refuel some Sorcery Points while you're at it.

Level 14: Honed Spellfire. Your Spellfire Burst (from level 3 above) gets bigger and better.

Level 18: Crown of Spellfire

  • Burning Life Force. Damage reduction that makes you harder to kill.
  • Flight. Fly Speed of 60 feet and can hover.
  • Spell Avoidance. When rolling saving throws against magical effects, take only half damage on a failure, and no damage on a success.

The Spellfire Sorcery Sorcerer might be the most all-rounder spellcasting subclass. Head over to D&D Beyond if you're ready to build your fire Spellfire Sorcerer

The Spellfire Sorcerer appears in the D&D Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerun – Player Expansion.
