Following the recent changes to walk back some bad decisions in Destiny 2, the next step is giving players cause to actually return to the game. While the feedback from the community on the changes have been largely positive with players and streamers noting the power grind feels much better than at at point since release and with many still very much looking forward to the Star Wars themed Renegades content update in December, there is still the pesky old problem of how to re-engage or keep people engaged until then. The most recent TWAB (don't care, it's always a TWAB to me) on the Bungie site details what's up now and who's on deck - namely Festival of the Lost and Call to Arms.
First up is Festival of the Lost - the Halloween themed annual event. There are a few changes to try and refresh the formula, instead of Haunted Lost Sectors the focus has shifted to Haunted Altars of Sorrow and there is a new PvP mode, Red Rum(ble), that tosses a Headless One in the middle of a Rumble match that will drop motes upon defeat that count towards your score. So it's rumble, with a showering of bonus points if you can time the killing blow on the PvE distraction in the middle of the map just right. All the rest of the standard Festival of the Lost mechanics are in place such as featured cosmetics, Masks and candy, and three featured weapons to chase: the Gunburn Kinetic Submachine Gun, the Whisper Strand Bow Hushed, and the return of last year’s Arc Shotgun Arcane Embrace. And best of all, just like the summer's Solstice event, all reward drops in Festival of the Lost are dropping at +1 tier reward level - a wildly popular decision by Bungie. Festival of the Lost started Tuesday and runs for two weeks, ending November 4th.
Then in November we pick back up with Call to Arms on November 11th. Call to Arms is a score based event that will let you attune seven different weapons:
There are also various cosmetics and other rewards attached to the event, and the points do matter. There will be an exclusive legendary helmet universal ornament only available to Guardians who either place in the top 10% across two of the five events or the top 1% in any of the five. More details can be found in that latest TWAB.
A lot of folks are taking a break right now from Destiny waiting for Renegades to drop, but with the 300 power catch-up armor waiting for us at the tower and with a chance to get some bonus tier drops, I'm thinking for players like myself that skipped this season, this might be a chance to dip a toe back in.
