I'm not a big one for collector's editions. I usually find that the extra stuff that I get in these expanded packages just ends up collecting dust, or gets stuffed into a box in a closet. I typically avoid them for the same reason that I stopped subscribing to Lootcrate a few years back - the fun goodies tend to pile up to the point where I'm like "What am I gonna do with all this stuff???"
The new collector's edition of Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is an outlier to this rule. For one, the goodies that you get are reasonably sized, so they aren't going to instantly create clutter. Secondly, this is actually stuff that my kids want, so it's much easier for me to unload (kid clutter doesn't bother me the same way as personal clutter does). And the third reason is that this Collector's Edition is reasonably priced; the base game is fifty bucks, and the Collector's Edition is $79.99. It maybe feels like a lot to pay for a Nicktoons game, but we are in an age where new games sometimes cost eighty bucks with no extras, so take that as you will.
I recently received a copy of the Dice of Destiny Collector's Edition, and had a pretty good time unboxing it. My kids gathered around excitedly, and immediately began calling dibs on the goodies within as they were revealed. I barely got to even touch the dice and the nice-quality leather pouch before my twelve-year-old scurried off with them like Gollum with the one ring retreating to his darkened cave. I later found her in the kitchen examining each die, ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the sparkles embedded within.
My nine-year-old son laid claim to the other stuff, including the collector's cards, the character stickers, and the map miniposter. Since he is actually the one playing the game with me, this felt appropriate, and he was pretty satisfied with his haul. The deluxe edition also comes with a code for the "Wardrobe of Wonder" DLC, which gives alternate in-game skins for all the main characters. The goodies are also contained in a pretty nice wooden tray, which has made it's way to my work desk to house my various cords and knick-knacks.
Of course, your results will vary here. Do you have kids that want this stuff? Do you want this stuff? I will say that Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is a pretty good game, and in an era when collector's editions can cost upwards of $120, this nicely packaged set of extras feels like a pretty good deal. It certainly got a big thumb's up from my family.
