He's the greatest, he's fantastic, wherever there is danger he'll be there...

Danger Mouse is a classic British kids cartoon that initially aired 45 years ago. I don't remember how I ended up watching it as a kid, Wikipedia suggests to me it was probably when it was picked up by Nickelodeon from 1984 to 1987, but I adored it. It was one of my favorite cartoons full stop and I still remember the jingle of the theme music above. There was a Danger Mouse reboot that was picked up by the BBC from 2015-2019 and now the James Bond-esque mouse is making a debut in gaming.

Danger Mouse and his assistant Penfold both feature in this side scrolling adventure game. What I love about this implementation is the antagonist, supervillain Baron Greenback, has hatched a plan is to force Danger Mouse to re-live previous epic encounters. So we can bring Danger Mouse into a video game while capitalizing on the nostalgia for the show. Brilliant! It even features hand-illustrated visuals animated frame-by-frame to really try and re-create the feeling of the show... well the more modern reboot of the show anyway. Unfortunately, the grainy quality and 4:3 aspect ratio from my childhood viewings is a little unrealistic to ask for at this point. Some highlights from the press release for the game:

  • 15 side-scrolling, arcade-battle-action, super danger-filled levels.
  • Team up with 2-player couch co-op and a unique single-player mode – Choose between Danger Mouse or his assistant, Penfold, with appearances from The Colonel and Professor Squawkencluck!
  • Take control – Operate the iconic Mark IV and drive, dive, fly and tap dance your way to victory.
  • Plenty of toilet humour – But no potty mouth.
  • Classic cartoon animation with completely hand-drawn aesthetic – Produced frame-by-frame by Art of Play’s top artists.
  • Cutscenes reveal a brand-new official story addition – Hand drawn by seasoned artists.

No firm release date yet, but Danger Mouse should arrive in 2026. There will be a digital download on PC via Steam, Switch and Switch 2, and PS4/PS5. Switch, Switch 2, and PS5 will also get physical releases.
