Hard to believe it's been nine years since Dungeons & Dragons first teamed up with TV show Stranger Things. More recently, however, was the introduction of heavy metal Dungeon Master Eddie Munson in season four—the jean-jacketed, long-haired, newly minted DM of those precocious and embattled Hawkins kids.
Eddie is now immortalized in a board game coming this October. It's called Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club. Thanks to D&D Beyond, you can get not only the physical board game, but the digital board game as well. I can only assume the "board" part of this board game is...maps. Which is something D&D has always come with.
This would appear to be a "board game" only by D&D's definition of what a board game is. I'd have to see things in greater detail. But it's possible they're not calling this D&D 5th Edition because elements are streamlined and/or made more palatable for people that don't own the new D&D 2024 Core Rulebooks. That's fair. But again: we'll see.
Welcome to the Hellfire Club is at least compatible enough with D&D 5e to work inside of D&D Beyond's virtual tabletop, Maps. It comes with four adventures, four maps, takes players from levels 1 to 3, features 30 monsters, 36 spells, and 20 magic items.
The physical board game includes these elements:
You can pre-order Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club on D&D Beyond now, available in both physical and digital formats, coming October 7, 2025. Which, incidentally, puts it ahead of Stranger Things' final season coming in three parts: the first debuting November 26.
