Atari and Pac Man are chomping together again

More On:

Announced this morning, Atari, in association with Bandai Namco, is playing nice for the festivities of Pac-Man's 45th Anniversary. The first announcement was that there will be a special edition of the Atari 2600+. The console comes in Pac-Man yellow, and has light up characters across the front of it. Blinky, Inky, Pinky, and Clyde are all represented here, and if you can give me their nicknames without looking them up, I'll give a quarter to the charity of your choice.

The Atari 2600+ Pac-Man edition comes with a wireless Pac-Man themed yellow controller. Packed in, is a 2 in one cartridge containing the original 2600 version of Pac-Man, and a brand new 7800 version of Pac-Man. If you already have a console, you can get the game separately for $34.99 USD, or get the cart as part of a 4 game High Score Collection. The other three games are Dig-Dug, Xevious, and Galaga, and are the 7800 versions. I then realized something that I never had before. I didn't know my 2600+ could play 7800 games. And now, I need those carts.

This wasn't the end of the announcements for the celebration. Atari also announced that you will be able to purchase more colors of the wireless joysticks, also themed around the ghost monsters. The CX-40's will be available for $39.99 USD. If you're at San Diego Comic Con, you may be the winner of one of a thousand Golden Box editions of the Pac-Man 2 in 1, which will come in Yellow, Blue, Pink, Orange, or Red, and will also include a commemorative pin and patch set. If you're not lucky enough, preorders start July 23rd.

Even Atari 50 is getting in on the details, as Bandai Namco has announced DLC for the museum game. The Namco Legendary pack will show exclusive interviews and behind the scenes footage, as well as some of the aforementioned games, in all of their respective versions. If you have the game, this DLC will run you $7.99 USD, but no word if that Pacman 7800 version will be included. This will be out later this year.
