The Witcher 4 shows off the power of the Unreal Engine in a tech demo

More On: The Witcher 4

While Gaming Nexus chat was abuzz with this news the last few days, I just realized we never actually posted it to the site. At the State of Unreal event mid-week, developers from CD Projekt Red and Epic Games joined together to show off their impressive work bringing The Witcher 4 to life by the power of the Unreal Engine. Now, this game is a long ways from complete and this was a heavily scripted tech demo, but it does highlight so many optimizations of how they will be able to pack so much more into gameplay and immersion from techniques like rendering foliage in more efficient manners to creating more detailed and realistic mannerisms and interactions between every character and element on-screen.

CD Projekt Red is known for taking a very long time to squeeze the most out of their games. So while the Witcher 4 is still a long ways off from release, estimated to be some time in 2027, what this video shows is that there is an amazing promise worth waiting for. This also shows me that my long-awaited replay of the Witcher 3 on next-gen consoles can also be pushed further down my personal backlog of games as the best way I can think of hyping myself up to a frenzy for this one is replaying that absolute classic even closer to the sequel's release.
