Announced back in August, the Atari 7800+ is now shipping. People have already had their grubby little hands on it, and I am not happy. Let me explain.
The Atari 2600+ played all the old carts, and had an HDMI output. It also worked with your old controllers, and came with a new controller for you, as well as a re-release of some new paddle controllers. It was packaged with a multi-cart, that let you change the games with dip switches, and promised new 2600 games. I played it once, and put it back in the box, because I thought it was going to become a collector's item. Nope. You can get an Atari 2600+ for $100 right now. You know why? Because THE 7800+ IS OUT!
Not only does this thing come with wireless controllers, but it also plays all the old 7800 AND 2600 carts, and is compatible with the 2600 Joystick. There are reproduced carts coming too, like Asteroids, Berzerk and it's sequel, Frenzy, will be reproduced. Even the RealSports Collection is getting a multicart, including Tennis, Volleyball, Baseball, Soccer, Football, and Boxing. Finally, there's a sequel to Crystal Castles being released, Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest. With all this, I don't need this 2600+ anymore. I need the 7800+. It looks so cool. Or so I thought.
After a tedious website browse, and a glance at that decanter, I bought the Atari VCS All In One Bundle, for $100, also on sale, and it comes with all the games I'll probably play anyway. You got my money, Atari. Now I have to find a way to sell this Atari 2600+, to eventually bow to the 7800+. Send me one, Plaion!
