What we're playing this weekend

More On: What we're playing
Ben Berry - Staff Writer/Silly Sleepy Head
Since I'll be at PAX, I'll be playing a lot, including Rock Band, and hopefully several other hot upcoming titles along with some new stuff from smaller Devs and Pubs.

Randy Kalista - Staff Writer/RaaaAaandyyyy...RaaaaAAAaAaaAaaAnnndy
John's taking bets on who's not playing BioShock this weekend -- and I just lost that bet.  I've been reading too much Modernist science fiction this year (Brave New World, 1984, Fahrenheit 451 … but kind of ignoring Atlas Shrugged) so the mid-20th century backdrop to BioShock is building itself into a giddy furor in my head.  Good good good stuff.

Elliot Bonnie - Staff Writer/
The Nonbeliever (ShuUuuuUuUUUUn)
This weekend I am playing the fantastic and engrossing Bioshock (huge surprise) and also playing some Super Metroid to gear up for next weeks Metroid Prime 3: Corruption release.

Cyril Lachel - Senior Staff Writer/The Magical Leopleurodon
Usually I have a clear cut plan of what I plan to play over the weekend, but since I'll be attending the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle I honestly don't have a clue.  I do know that I'll be jamming on Rock Band on Saturday at noon (that's when my scheduled appointment takes place) and I expect to check out Dead Head Fred (PSP), Fury (PC), Insecticide (Nintendo DS), and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii).  Hopefully I'll be surprised by what else is at the show, but I can tell you that my schedule is packed with developer interviews, round table discussions, parties and concerts.  Oh, and I plan on watching Tron on the big screen.  Yeah, it's going to be a great weekend.  My only complaint is that I won't have any time to play BioShock.  I guess that will have to wait for next week.

Tyler Sager - Senior Staff Writer/Missing Kidney
Actually, I'm not playing Bioshock this weekend...the weekend of GenCon kinda swallowed up my gaming budget for a little while.  So I'll be busy finishing up my look at Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword and I'll still be tinkering around with Final Fantasy XII and Titan Quest

Sean Colleli - Staff Writer/Map Finder

After finally getting the damned thing to run, I've been playing Bioshock.  The game is buggy as all hell and infested with copy protection--I had to actually turn shaders off to keep it from crashing every 10 minutes, so now it's playable but looks like ass.  2Ks support forums are overflowing with complaints, even from people who have PCs far above the minimum system requirements, so I guess it's widespread problem.  They better whip up a patch and soon.  I didn't drop $300 on new hardware and $50 on the game to be disappointed like this.Anyway...aside from my hassles with Bioshock, I'm continuing my defection to the Sonyet Union with Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3.  I played the PC port of Sons of Liberty a couple years back and it's like I remember it--pretentious, convoluted and tedious.  Snake Eater is a lot more fun, but just a tad awkward. To finish up, I found a great source port that lets me run Descent under XP.  Interplay's classic flight combat shooter was one of my favorites growing up, and it's great to play it again, like catching up with an old friend.

Matt Mirkovich - Staff Writer/Covered in Splinters
Well unlike most people around here I'm sure. I'm getting more Persona 3 action. That's really all there is for me since I am stranded without my 360. Oh the pain! Sweet BioShock... I'll see you someday. In the meantime I'm also logging some hours in Jeanne D'Arc which is surprisingly good. I didn't have much faith in Level 5 to make me a good Strategy RPG, but man, they sure fooled me.

Charles Husemann - Editor In Chief/Wondering if the Meadow is on fire
I'm headed up to PAX with Ben this weekend so it's going to be more of a sampler platter of games rather than dedicating time to Bioshock or something else.  I'm going to get a little hands on time with Kane and & Lynch, Rock Band, Tar Chronicles, Guild Wars: Eye of the North, and a bevy of other titles.  Check back during the weekend for our coverage of the show.

John Yan - Senior Hardware Editor/Going to Candy Mountain
It's all about BioShock. I finally got time in with the game so I'm happy. It looks gorgeous on my computer running Vista, DX10, and a Foxconn GeForce 8800 GTX card.
