Gaming company Scarlet Genesis reached out to me and asked if I wanted to do a public play test for their upcoming game Robo the Alectric Idventurer. The plot behind such an ambitious game is dark, but straight forward. You are Robo. You used to be Robin, a very creative and dyslexic kid, but your soul was transferred to this robot toy, just as everyone else. Your mission is to go through puzzles and challenges to overthrow the Steam Punk Game. Silly Steam Punk Gang!
You start off the game (after a huge 'this is an early build' disclaimer) in a dark bedroom, that looks to be your own. The robot runs on rechargeable battery power. You can walk up to certain things in the room, and either transfer your energy, or take their energy. The more energy you have, which is capped off at 100, the faster you move. If you transfer all your energy to a plug, or a light to meet objectives, you will move slow. Every time you complete a room, your energy is refilled. Your first goal is to get out the room. On the way out, you are reminiscing on what the world used to be in your human form. It is a platformer, with full camera control. Everything you need to know is taught to you in this first level. Once you get through, you go out into the world. Also, keep in mind that if you run out of energy before you complete the task at hand, you can easily reset to a check point.
Again, this was a very very early copy of the game, as you can wishlist it on Steam, but there is no release date or price point. The build also says that it doesn't work with a controller, but my Xbox controller worked almost flawlessly. Once you get into the outside world, the very first challenge takes you on a loop. But once you get the hang of it, it's a pretty fun and challenging game. The play test is about an hour, and I think anyone can access it. If you don't want the puzzles spoiled for you, don't watch the above video. Special thanks to Scarlet Genesis for reaching out and letting us play it! Check it out for yourself. You can even leave feedback via a google doc. How fun is that?
