Samsung brings cloud gaming to 2022 Smart TV models with Stadia, GeForce Now, and Utomik

What's this? There is actually some news to report on today? Is the gaming industry waking up from its annual holiday slumber?

Well, kinda, but the big story today is actually consumer electronics. Samsung yesterday announced at the Consumer Electronics Show that all of its new Tizen-powered 2022 Smart TV models will include a new "Gaming Hub". And what does that mean for consumers? It means that for cloud gaming fans, another barrier to entry just got steamrolled.

This new Gaming Hub will include Stadia, NVIDIA GeForce Now and Utomik (gotta look more into that last one) functionality built right into the TV - no more need for a Chromecast, etc. The press release says that there will be more partnership announcements "to follow", which means that Xbox Cloud Gaming and PlayStation fans can still hold out hope that their platforms of choice might be included.

This is just one more sign that cloud gaming is a relevant and viable solution for gamers. Speaking for myself, I already have a Smart TV, and my Chromecast is working just fine, thank you very much. Still, I would love to try one of these new televisions out just to see how the functionality works. Depending on how easy it is to sign up for these services and how quickly you can link your controllers, this partnership has the potential to bring tons of new fans to the cloud. At the very least, it is great for cloud gaming fans to start this new year with a point in the win column.
