Undying, the survival sim about a mother and her young son trying to survive along in a zombie-infested world, dropped on Steam on October 19. Currently holding a "Very Positive" rating on Steam, the game seems to have found an audience. In Undying, mother Anling attempts to take care of her young son Cody after the world falls apart. Cody's father has abandoned the family to go off and try to save the world (he's a doctor), leaving Anling to protect Cody and teach him how to survive.
It's no spoiler (it happens at the very beginning of the game) to note that Anling has been bitten by a zombie, resulting in her remaining time being very limited. As the player makes their way through the world of Undying, they can show Cody everything they do, effectively teaching the boy how to survive on his own. Eventually, he begins acting with agency of his own, helping out as the duo run dangerous missions for food and supplies.
I played the first 45 minutes or so of Undying, and I'll definitely be returning to the game. I love the quiet feel to the game, and though I talk a lot of smack, that's just me whistling in the dark. The mood of this thing is a bit oppressive. Check it out:
Undying is now available on Steam in early access. The game is currently on sale for 12% off, retailing for $17.49.
