More On: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy

The entire gaming community is pretty accustomed to long lead times when it comes to Rockstar games. The notoriously meticulous company adheres to a strong "it'll be done when it's done" ethic, emphasizing quality and polish over release dates. And who can blame Rockstar? They can afford to take their time.

But it looks like Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition will be different. Announced on October 8 of this year, GTA: The Trilogy will be releasing on November 11 on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. A PC version will be available via the Rockstar Games Launcher.

That turnaround time is absolutely stunning, even for ports of existing games, implying that Rockstar has been working on this package for a while now. Including Grand Theft Auto IIIGrand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the trilogy will also get a physical release on December 7.

This is no simple port of the existing titles, either. According to a recent press release, "Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition introduces wide-ranging modern control upgrades, including improvements to targeting and lock-on aiming, updated Weapon and Radio Station Wheels, updated Mini-Maps with enhanced navigation allowing players to set waypoints to destinations, updated Achievements, Trophies, and more. The Nintendo Switch version also features Switch-specific controls including Gyro aiming, as well as touch screen camera zooming, pans, and menu selections, while the PC version includes support for NVIDIA DLSS and additional new Accomplishments via the Rockstar Games Social Club."

So...yeah. These new versions also include lighting and shadow improvements, new character and vehicle models, and generally higher resolution. All around, a complete visual overhaul. I can't wait to hop back into Vice City. I was an idiot and broke my save with a cheat code, so I was never able to beat that one.
