New Battlefield 2042 gameplay trailer focuses on the Specialists and their unique abilities

More On: Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042 isn’t far away now and it’s safe to say that it’s the online FPS that I’m most looking forward to this year. Everything I have seen of Battlefield 2042 so far has got me pumped up to jump in myself and now EA have finally showed off more official gameplay. The Specialists overview trailer focuses on Battlefield 2042's Specialist system, which is based on Battlefield's four Classes: Assault, Support, Engineer, and Recon. Each Specialist has one unique Specialty and Trait, but the rest of the loadout can be customised as usual.

Mackay (Assault) comes equipped with a grappling hook (when is this never cool?) and his unique trait Nimble gives him increased movement speed while aiming down the sight and ziplining. Mackay looks like he’s going to be a close quarters nightmare and a Specialist to use if you like aggressive plays.

Falck (Support) comes equipped with a S21 Syrette Pistol which allows her the ability to quickly heal team-mates from a distance by shooting them with the pistol. In the trailer, she can also be seen healing herself with the pistol. She comes with the Combat Surgeon trait and the defibrillators make a return from previous Battlefield games.

Boris (Engineer) comes equipped with a deployable turret, the SG-36 Sentry System. In the trailer, we see him flanking a couple of foes and deploying the Sentry near them and it locked onto them and opened fire. It’s just a bigger version of the turret gadget that fans of The Division will recognise. Boris’ unique trait Sentry Operator will make the turret even more potent when Boris stays near its vicinity.

Casper (Recon) is a fitting name for a Sniper and he comes equipped with the OV-P Recon Drone, a camera-equipped bi-copter drone with a vaguely bird-like appearance.  Casper’s Movement Sensor trait alerted him to an enemy trying to flank up behind him.

Multiple rumours point to a September 22 release date for the upcoming Battlefield 2042 beta so hopefully it isn’t too long until we can all get hands-on. Otherwise, Battlefield 2042 is set to release on October 22, 2021.
