Breakwaters looks to offer a refreshing new take on the survival genre

More On: Breakwaters

Although Breakwaters contains a lot of the typical stuff one would find in a survival game - chopping down trees, building, crafting - something about the game just looks...refreshing. Maybe it's the crystal blue ocean water, maybe it's the twirly way the wind is represented with little curly-cues floating in the air, maybe it's the cool titans that stalk the land, but I don't get any been-there-done-that vibes from Breakwaters.

Check out the trailer, and maybe you can see what I mean:

In the very first shot, the player character parts the seas like Moses. Twenty seconds later, he is in a gliding canoe. The only boars in site are those he has fenced in on his farm. And at one point, he appears to be raising Atlantis from the deep. It all looks fresh and new.

Breakwaters, being developed by Soaring Pixel Games, is definitely a survival game, with the player sailing from island to island ala Windbound. "Solo or with friends, players explore a procedural world with dangerous ocean depths and nearby islands while battling or avoiding terrifying Titans. Artifacts from a dead civilization beneath the waves, these massive monsters constantly roam the world, causing destruction. Can you earn the right to become a Breakwater and stop the Titans?"

Breakwaters is set to launch into early access in 2021 on Steam followed by other PC portals and console platforms to be announced at a later date. For more information, visit the website or Steam Page.
