Ubisoft details improvements to its Snowdrop engine for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

When Ubisoft announced Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora at its E3 presentation a few weeks back, the gaming world reacted with a confused shrug. Though Avatar is still the #1 ranking film in history in terms of box office - and many sequels are on the way - gamers seemed confused about the game, wondering why Ubisoft was focusing on "old stuff".

Perhaps that's why Ubisoft put together this video, detailing the improvements the company has made to its Snowdrop engine, which allow the world of Pandora to be rendered at an unheard-of level of detail. This video may be the company's way of saying "No, no, you guys, this is actually cool."

I'm convinced, but then, I thought that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has looked cool since I first saw it. I am aware of the Ferngully aspects of the original film, but I rewatched it in 3D recently, and Avatar really holds up as a piece of visual entertainment, regardless of the film's story problems. I'm convinced that Ubisoft is making a really cool game here, and I expect that the rest of the gaming community will eventually come around, particularly after the trailers for the new film start dropping.
