Virtual Magic Games maps out its Wild West Dynasty biomes with....Lego

There are probably a lot of ways that different video game companies plan out what the final maps in their games will look like; white board sessions, mapping software, piles of printer paper with scribbled locations arranged and then re-arranged. But I've never seen a company actually sit down an build their map out of Lego. Until now, that is. Check it out:

The video is a pretty fascinating look at one studio's process, building out models, scanning them in, adding more detail, and then 3D printing out the results. Then a bit of modeling clay, more scanning, some textures, some objects, and two minutes later you have a full-fledged video game!

Obviously, it's not that easy, but this video does do a great job of bringing attention to Wild West Dynasty - an upcoming single-player survival sim set in the old West. I actually love the fact that Wild West Dynasty is not online multiplayer, meaning that no scrubby bandits will swoop in and raid my cattle, murder my ranch hands, kill my dog, and steal my bible. I do not enjoy building something up just to have some bored gang of hooligan kids come knock it down again.

You can wishlist Wild West Dynasty on Steam now, with an expected launch in 2022.
