AMD's DLSS solution coming

NVIDIA has a great solution to make games more performant and sometimes increase graphics quality with their upscaling technology DLSS. But what if you have an AMD card since that feature is NVIDIA specific? Well, the time is coming for you too!

At Computex, AMD detailed the AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, their own upscaling solution and it works not only on AMD cards but all cards. It's a spatial upscaling algorithm that's built for improving performance. With four quality settings, FidelityX Super Resolution will let you choose the balance of performance and image quality on the final upscaled product that you are happy with.

AMD is touting a 59% to 300% increase depending on the mode you choose. Of course, the trade off for going higher in performance is a lesser quality in image at your native resolution, but it seems like there's a nice amount of performance that can be gained even just going at the lowest setting.

Compatibility for AMD cards range from Vega, RX 500, RX 5000, RX 6000 and Ryzen APUs with Radeon graphics. And unlike NVIDIA, you can use FidelityFX Super Resolution on NVIDIA cards with the GeForce GTX 1060 as one mentioned in their presentation.

Currently 10 game studios are in line to add this feature and more will be coming. It's good to see that number on board, but I would love to know who they are by name. June 22nd will be the first game released with FSR and I wonder if it will be Godfall since that was what they used to demo the feature.

We'll know how well it compares to DLSS once reviewers and the public get to see it with their own eyes, but I'm happy to see another solution out there and one that works on a wide range of cards rather than one specific company. Hopefully, it works well to improve performance on a wide range of setups.
