I don't really pay a lot of attention to the mobile gaming space. No real reason behind that, I just have a lot of gadgets to play games on, and I consider my phone to be...just a phone. So, when a mobile Free-to-Play game gets ported to PC, my typical reaction is a shrug.
But this time, the game is Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space from Masato Kato (Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII, Xenogears), and is billed as a "fresh take on classic JRPGs". JRPGs, you say? From the maker of Chrono Trigger? Now my head turns and I start to pay attention.
According to a recent press release, players can expect to "explore a vast map spanning multiple continents and time periods. Find and recruit over 100 playable party members, each with tide-turning specialties and the potential for devastating combo attacks. Stand brave in classic, turn-based combat, combining magic chants, party buffs, and dozens of special abilities." Sounds like a JRPG all right.
Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space (which, lets face it, is an awesome name) has been downloaded on mobile more than five million times. And now applications are open to play early in pre-release on Steam - with players able to earn special rewards for participating. According to the game's Steam page, the full release is scheduled for March 15, so this pre-release period won't be terribly long.
