Up until this morning, I was unfamiliar with Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 - but it seems as though Bandai Namco's free-to-play Gundam brawler has been cranking away on PlayStation 4 since October of 2019. And though the game has been playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility, a new PS5-specific version was yesterday released on the PlayStation Store.
Beyond the obviously enhanced graphical upgrade, the new version of MSG:BO2 allows players the option to toggle between Japanese and English voiceover options - which have also been added into the PS4 version.
Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 has players jumping into their Mobile Suits and skidding around in 6v6 team battles. Of course, the mecha are fully customizable, which is one of the main tenants of the franchise.
Interestingly, when I was browsing around the PlayStation Store, I didn't see a ton of microtransactions for Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2. I'm sure they are there somewhere, as the game has to have some revenue-generating plan, but I didn't immediately see a monetization model in place.
My only real experience with Gundam was a review I did for New Gundam Breaker a few years back, which I legendarily did not like. However, I would be willing to give the franchise another shot. Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 2 has been successful enough to garner a new-gen upgrade. Must be something good going on there.
