What we're playing this weekend

More On: What we're playing
It's the long weekend here in the States and everybody will have a little extra time to work on their monitor tans.

I've been playing F.E.A.R. for the first time, and yeah I know I'm about two years behind the curve.  So far it's pretty good, the shooting parts are a bit sporadic but I guess that's just to build up suspense.  For the most part it feels like Half-Life 2 crossed with The Grudge.

I'm not going to lie to you:  That Fairy Godmother Tycoon is a cheeky little bugger.  You reinvigorate a faltering potion-making franchise, put your own twist on some already twisted fairy tales, and even cast an "Oh, Hush!" spell that cuts negative word-of-mouth off at the knees … I'm also swangin' through a large, lifeless Manhattan with everybody's favorite web coder in the PC version of Spider-Man 3 … And I went ahead and reinstalled Half-Life 2.  That game has scenarios that leave me in awe every.  Single.  Time.

Well, I will try the Halo 3 beta again, as I got a Matrix like screen and a freeze up for my efforts.  I am also doing more co-op campaign in Crackdown with John, trying to get all the stunt ,markers and orbs.

On the PSP, still grinding away on Call of Duty for a review, should be wrapped up here soon.

I am also trying to get the World Golf Tour and the Shadow of Legend betas up and running, again not having so much luck.  So basically, I have a bunch of stuff I WANT to play, that I cant get to work.  <sigh>

This weekend is scrape the barrel time for me. I'm playing Pocket Pool - no jokes please - and Cube on the PSP as well as Smash Court Tennis 3. On the PC I have Infernal and Sparta to play around with. Mario Party 8 will probably take up at least some of my liesure time but we'll see.

Rachel Steiner - Staff Writer
I'm actually playing Spiderman 3 for the DS and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End for the Wii

Matt Mirkovich - Staff Writer
So this weekend is dedicated to a few games, but with one being at the absolute top of the pile. Odin Sphere. I picked it up Wednesday and man... I prolific rant could go here, but I will just give it one word, AMAZING. Aside from that I will be hitting up an arcade in the San Francisco Bay Area for a dose of Beatmania IIDX: DistorteD. Beyond that will be the arcade release of Melty Blood: Act Cadenza and some Pokemon. Do I sound like a Japan-o-phile yet? I swear I'm not.

I really wanted to have fun this weekend, I really did. Unfortunately fun just didn't come knocking at my door.  Instead I continued my career in Test Drive Unlimited for the PSP ... who knew that game would be so long?  And in those times when I needed to charge Sony's handheld I played through most of Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam for the PlayStation 2.  I was one of those people that missed the game on the Wii, so I'm having a good time going through it.  I'm also finding that I have to force myself to play SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash DS.  I absolutely adore the two Card Fighters Clash games on the Neo Geo Pocket Color, so I'm doing my best to put my finger on just what makes this Nintendo DS update so bad.  In fact, saying it's merely bad is kind of an upgrade, the game feels like it's downright broken.  Hopefully this weekend I'll figure how just why that is.

Well, I’ve been thoroughly sucked back into the world of Tamriel this week, not doing much other than playing Oblivion.  I’m sure I’ll get a few more games in over the long holiday weekend…

Charles Husemann - Editor In Chief
For me this weekend is all about the betas, specifically the Halo 3 Beta and the Warhawk beta.  Time permitting I might fire up Oblivion and Spider-Man 3 on the PS3 but I have a feeling that some yard work is going to get in the way.
3.

I just can't get enough of Crackdown. Dan and I had a lot of fun tossing each other through stunt rings. I'll also be playing some of MLB07 on the PlayStation 3.
