Blast from the past, new GI Joe game out now

More On: GI Joe: Operation Blackout

I lived and breathed GI Joe when I was a kid. If I wasn't playing with them as actual Joe's, then I was using the toys to represent the X-Men or football players or whatever else my imagination wanted to cook up that the 80's didn't have an individual officially licensed toy for. They also didn't have many officially licensed games back then either. But here we are, 3 decades later with that GI Joe game I've wanted to play since the original GI Joe landed on the NES in 1991.

This time around we've moved beyond the side scrolling, Contra-style of the 91 game into a full blown modern gen 3rd-person shooter. GI Joe: Operation Blackout lets you play as both the Joes or Cobras in a co-op story campaign or PvP multiplayer. The Story-mode follows an original story inspired the classic comics and brings you to iconic locales like the U.S.S. Flagg and Cobra Headquarters. Popular vehicles also make appearances like Joe's Persuader and Cobra H.I.S.S. tanks. PvP has the classic versus modes like Capture the Flag, Assault, King of The Hill and Deathmatch Arena. There are 12 playable characters, including Duke, Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, Destro, Roadblock, Storm Shadow and more. But you had me at Snake Eyes...

G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout is out now for Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. It's $39.99, with a Gold Deluxe Edition, which also includes additional character skins for Duke and Cobra Commander, 12 bonus weapon skins, and an exclusive digital art book and soundtrack for $49.99.

Now you know... and knowing is half the battle!
