Your watch begins in Game of Thrones: Tale of Crows

God, Season 8 was so bad...

I almost forget sometimes just how good seasons 1-6 were. I almost forget just how rich and interesting the backstory to the vivid world JRR Martin created is, yet here we are, and entire world ruined by show runners who desperately wanted their watch to end yet refused to step down. Along comes Game of Thrones: Tale of Crows to try and remind us of what we lost.

In this game, available on Apple Arcade (Apple's subscription gaming service, free trial available, $5/month after that) we remove ourselves from the Song of Fire and Ice and look back at the 8,000 year history of the Night's Watch. The game takes on a very interesting concept in that you take the Black as Lord Commanders through the years and make decisions on how to manage the Wall, but the game will continue on even when you've logged off back to the real world. From the game's own description:

  • A narrative idle game based in the Game of Thrones universe where time passes in the game world, even in your absence.
  • Send expeditions from Castle Black beyond the Wall and into the far North.
  • Expeditions will continue to explore even when the game is closed.
  • Turn notifications on to learn when something happens, or come back whenever you want. The game will wait for you.

Game of Thrones: Tale of Crows can be played on a Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV. It does require at least MacOS 10.15.0 or iOS 13.0. More info at: https://apps.apple.com/app/id1483071787
