Ahoy hunts down the first video game

Youtuber Ahoy, aka Stuart Brown, has a release schedule that can charitably be called...sporadic. But when the posh British animator, narrator and composer drops a new video, you can be sure it's a doozy. Previously he dug into arcade urban legend Polybius, but in his most recent video, he's done nothing less than track down the very first video game. Naturally this takes a rigorous definition of exactly what a video game is, as the entire genre's origins are shrouded in the misty genesis of computer science, tracking all the way back to Alan Turing. It also takes a heck of a lot of research, but the results just might surprise you. Here's a hint: it's not Pong.

It's a lengthy watch at just over an hour long but fairly engrossing for a gaming history nerd like me. I wholeheartedly recommend you invest the time to watch the whole documentary. As Ahoy so eloquently puts it, until next time, farewell.
