The Iceborne expansion for Monster Hunter: World is bringing a wintry wonderland to the game this September. We hosted the story trailer last week, and now have an in-depth look at Hoarfrost Reach, the new location in the game. The video below focuses in on the new subspecies of monsters as well as the Seliana gathering hub which is centered around a hot springs and includes access to "My Room" and all of its customization elements.

The new monsters promise to ratchet up the difficulty with variations to match the extreme climate of the Reach such as the brute wyvern Fulgur Anjanath which channels lightning instead of fire, the fanged wyvern Ebony Odogaron with a wider attack range and dragon elemental, or the fiery Glavenus with its sword-like tail and trademark sweep attack, as highlighted in the video.

In addition to new content, gameplay tweaks are incoming with the expansion as well. Difficulty scaling will be introduced for the first time in the series making two-player hunting parties a possibility. Sidekicks are getting upgraded gadgets like the Shieldspire Stooge, a mobile decoy that draws a monster’s attention away from the player, and the Meowcano, a giant jar that shoots out fireballs at enemies.

The Iceborne expansion releases September 6th for PS4 and Xbox One X with a PC release shortly after in the winter. Players will of course need the base game but will also need to have completed the main story and achieved at least level 16 to enter the Hoarfrost Reach story and side quests. The expansion by itself will release for $39.99, a deluxe DLC with some additional cosmetic items for $49.99 and a Master Edition that includes the base game is $59.99.
