THQ Nordic acquires Carmageddon IP from developer Stainless Games

In a move that I certainly didn't see coming, publisher THQ Nordic has acquired very old-school IP Carmageddon from developer Stainless Games. 

The last time Carmageddon saw a release in the franchise was in 2015, with Carmageddon: Reincarnation. The first in the series was released in 1997. 

Per the press release published by THQ: "The acquisition itself is being handled by THQ Nordic AB, based in Karlstad, Sweden, and daily operations (sales and distribution, evaluation of sequels & new content etc.) will be done via THQ Nordic GmbH in Vienna, Austria and/or Handy Games GmbH in Giebelstadt, Germany, respectively". 

No concrete news on an upcoming title, as this is currently the biggest info dump on the franchise in three years, but it's safe to say that something is in the works.
