2K runs down all of the new features coming to WWE 2K19

More On: WWE 2K19

I had been really critical of 2K games as of late because myself and a lot of the WWE Games community were worried that WWE 2K19 wasn't going to be much of an upgrade to WWE 2K18. It was three weeks before the game launched and we knew almost nothing about the game so we all thought 2K was hiding something. Well just last week the embargo ended on gameplay videos and info about the game and wow, what a surprise we all got. 2K essentially dropped the bomb and revealed that there is going to be a ton of new additions to WWE 2K19 and the community is thrilled because some of these things are updates we have been asking a long time for.

First off the Hell in a Cell and Steel Cages matches are brand new this year. Steel Cage matches have a new mini game for escaping the cage. You can also climb along side the cage and brawl with your opponent to try and knock them down. You can also fight on top of the cage as well. You also have the option of exiting through the cage door whenever you want as well and have to complete a mini game to do so. There is also a brand new OMG Moment where you can win a Steel Cage match by Power slamming your opponent through the side of the cage wall.

The Cell itself in the Hell in a Cell match has been resized and now allows you to exit the cage simply by irish whipping your opponent into the bottom corners of the Cell. You can now fight between the Cell and the ringside barrier and you can freely climb the cage to the roof. This means you can recreate moments like the most recent Hell in a Cell PPV where Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler were brawling on the side of the cage before falling through the announce tables. Finally the roof of the Hell in a Cell has breakable panels. The four panels in the middle of the roof can collapse and send an opponent tumbling to the ring below.

Other new match types include Fatal 5 Way matches and the long awaited return of Triple Threat Tag Team matches and 2K takes it one step further with new Fatal 4 Way Tag Team matches. These are match types that the community has been begging over 10 years to return. Triple Threat Tag Team TLC matches were so much fun back in the Smackdown vs. Raw days. Its nice to see them return.

New gameplay mechanics include a reworking of the ability system called the "Payback System". As you take damage during the match, your Payback meter will fill up. At level 1 you have access to abilities such as getting an automatic reversal, a boost to speed and stamina, or the ability to instantly recover after you have been knocked down. If you save it and get it to level 2, you get more devastating abilities such as automatically earning a finisher, being able to automatically kick out of pins and submissions, or the ability to low blow your opponent or spray poison mist in their face.

Probably the coolest new feature are the all new Money in the Bank mechanics. In the previous games you would win the MITB ladder match, cash in and that would be it. This year however the Money in the Bank mechanics are completely new. For starters you can now create your own MITB briefcases and assign them for certain titles. So if you wanted to create a black and white nWo briefcase for the nWo spray painted big gold belt, you can do so. You also now have the ability to choose when you want to cash in the briefcase. You can choose to announce your cash in ahead of time, cash in during the match or cash in after the match.

All of the details of these new mechanics can be found on WWE 2K's official website.

WWE 2K19 launches next Friday for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
