Endnight Games’ The Forest has been getting a lot of love around the Gaming Nexus office lately (read: Slack channel; we’re all over the place). There have been several Forest-ing sessions in the last couple of weeks, and since my PC is too jank to join in, I’m delighted that The Forest is coming to PlayStation 4.

The Forest follows a father that is searching for his son in the woods after having been separated by a plane crash. All seems nice and peaceful (you know, besides the missing son and the crashing plane) until the naked multi-limb crazed mutant freak things show up.

In a rather lengthy post over on the PlayStation Blog, Endnight Games dev Anna Terekhova goes into a lot of detail about the work that Endnight put into the creation of their survival opus. I won’t go into “post repeat” mode (you can read the whole thing here), but essentially Endgame were attempting to make an incredibly interactive survival environment to give the player the most choice on to proceed.

“Want to build a tree house connected by ziplines? Or a raft to try and survive at sea? Both are possible. Feel like an ocean side fortress surrounded by traps will be the best way to survive? You can also do that. We wanted to build a world that was scary and dangerous, then give players the choices for how to best survive,” writes Terakhova.

Pretty awesome. Throw in some horror elements, and we’re golden. There’s a ton more detail over at the original post, but the bottom line is that The Forest will be playable at PAX this weekend, and will release on November 6th, 2018. Just in time for my second ex-wife’s birthday! Hooray!
