The HTC Vive Wireless Adapter will start pre-orders on September 5

The HTC Vive has had one wireless solution in the past with the TPCast, but we're soon getting another one. HTC announced that pre-orders for the HTC Vive Wireless Adapter is going live on September 5th and it'll be priced at $299. Unfortunately, they didn't announce when it would be released though, but it's one step closer to being in our hands.

The official HTC solution using Intel's WiGig technology, the adapter will fit on top of your Vive offering a tether free gaming experience. You'll need a free PCI-e slot and the battery that HTC supplies with the adapter will last up to 2.5 hours.

Between this and the TPCast, this was the one I was most looking forward to. Hands on articles have been very promising and hopefully, we can use any power brick available instead of the HTC ones.

One really annoying bit about the adapter is that if you have the HTC Vive Pro, you'll need to spend an additional $60 for necessary components in order to use the wireless adapter. It's another reason I'm glad I didn't spend money on that package along with the subpar reviews. It's unfortunate that HTC sees to really charge a premium for the Pro and its accessories.

Pre-orders for the HTC Vive Wireless Adapter will be up on NewEgg, Amazon, Best Buy, Microsoft, and Vive.com. I suggest any of the first four as there's been many reports on less then stellar experiences with direct orders from HTC if you plan on picking one up.
