"Welcome to Sharpwood" provides an artful, somber introduction to the setting of This is the Police 2

More On: This Is The Police 2

This Is The Police 2, the sequel to the 2016 noir-drama focusing on a police chief trying to clean up his town before retirement, just got a new trailer. Whereas the original took place in a city in which municipal authorities, the mob, and even the church competed for control, the sequel moves into a proverbial heartland.

Players control sheriff Lilly Reed, new to the town of Sharpwood, a place "where people know their neighbors by name and faithfully keep to their traditions, no matter how barbaric those traditions might be". As Reed, the player will attempt to maintain order in the wake of a new arrival of a man named Warren Nash, someone who may bring "salvation or perdition" to the struggling populace.

Visit developer Weappy's site for a more complete summary of what the game has to offer.

Reading through the description myself, it looks like Weappy will be heaping the player with a lot of tough moral and ethical decisions, but hopefully this description of a rural town on the verge of collapse won't edge too far into stereotypical territory. But if I'm going to get a tone in the game anywhere near what's established in this new trailer, I think I might let up.

A pseudo-panoramic that can only be described as Fargo, North Dakota on the verge of an overdose, the music and visuals in this trailer are astounding. Wolves and wild dogs chase a man trying to climb a fence, two faceless sheriffs prevent a couple from pulverizing each other, and officers are shot at and burned alive in the middle of a shootout with a group of armed men.

Of course, the devs promise the game to be a mix of genres, so we'll see what it really ends up being upon release on August 2nd, but for now, enjoy this wonderful trailer.
