April's PlayStation Plus freebies are an adrenaline shot to the face

More On: Mad Max

PlayStation Plus is definitely stepping up its game during the last couple of months. Coming right on the heels of last month's offering of Bloodborne and Ratchet and Clank, April is bringing two action packed titles to PS4 owners.

Mad Max is hands down one of the best open world games I have played in recent years. Though it took a bit of a critical drubbing and got lost in the shuffle upon release, Mad Max has a ton to offer fans of high octane action. Arkham-style combat, awesome world building, and wild automotive battles are just a few of the features that make Mad Max special. I particularly enjoyed building up my "Magnum Opus", Max's car in the game. As you progress through missions, you earn new pieces to add onto your demonic vehicle, slowly adding tire spikes and harpoons until you have a vicious looking death machine.

TrackMania Turbo is a great racer that has players sprinting across the finish line after attempting to find the perfect line in a series of time trials. Each race is brief, and restarting is instant, leading to that "one-more-try" dynamic that can easily eat up hours of your time. The game includes a free VR patch, offering many original tracks to play in virtual reality. When you get a load of the twists and turns involved in some of these wild track layouts, VR suddenly becomes a very scary place. This is a great game.

In addition to those, PS3 and Vita owners get the first set of games while PlayStation begins counting down their last 12 months of participation in the program.  Here's the list:

  • In Space we Brawl, PS3
  • Toy Home, PS3
  • 99 Vidas, PS Vita
  • Q*Bert Rebooted, PS Vita (Cross Buy with PS3 and PS4)

With two very solid months in a row, it looks like PlayStation Plus is on a major upswing. Let's all meet back here next month to see if they can keep up the trend.
