Headsup Games and Happy Tuesday announced that their hero-based tower defense title Hero Defense will release on PS4 and Xbox One in the second quarter of 2018.

Hero Defense is a tower defense game that substitutes hero characters for towers. Heroes can be maneuvered around the playing field at will, allowing players to displace and flank baddies as they march along. Each hero is customizable, with skill trees, modifiable weapons, runes, and magic spells, allowing players to create a wide variety of tactical approaches. The game takes place in a dark world of vampires and monsters, but with a fun cartoonish art style that keeps things from getting too grim.

Hero Defense has been on Steam for a couple of years now, where it seems to have garnered a mostly positive response from the community. I always enjoy a nice tower defense game. While some folks find games of this sort simplistic, I find the distilled strategy experience offered in tower defense to be very engaging, and Hero Defense looks like it might offer enough integrated complexity to win over some of the genre’s naysayers.

Note: The above trailer is for the Steam version of the game, so mechanics may differ on PS4 and Xbox One.
