Police Simulator 18 is delayed to Summer 2018. Insert joke here.

German developer astragon (that lower-case ‘a’ is their idea, not mine) has announced that their new game Police Simulator 18 has been delayed until Summer 2018. The company has decided to delay the game to accommodate suggestions from their community.

Reading this news, so many thoughts raced through my head. Were there 17 other Police Simulator games and I just missed them? (Nope.) A German company is making a game simulating the “interesting challenges and varied tasks” that face police in modern America? What could go wrong there? How will this game represent the rich and diverse cultures and socio-economic landscape that can be found in modern American cities? And why would anyone choose to whack that particular hornet’s nest with a stick?

Side-stepping all of the obvious political jokes and observations (this is a gaming site!), I have to say that this trailer looks fantastic, in an Ed Wood sort of way. The scene where the cop gives the parked yellow sports car the side-eye, then tickets the car muttering “This’ll teach you to respect the parking regulations” is GOLD. In my opinion, there are absolutely games that are so bad they are good, and while this trailer is early, I feel like Police Simulator 18 might be a good nominee for that category.

All snark aside, the city design looks pretty cool. I’m looking forward to seeing how this whole thing shakes out. This team definitely has some interesting challenges to overcome. Let’s all agree to meet here again in the summer, and see how they did.
