Worms W.M.D. for Switch launches on November 23rd

Worms is one of those franchises that quietly finds ways to iterate on itself, while still maintaining its core gameplay. I fired up Worms Battlegrounds on PS4 last week for some online PvP, and after a brief period spent getting to know the weapons I was unfamiliar with, I was able to leap right back into action even though I had been away from the franchise for over 10 years. The gameplay is right where I left it, still hilarious and random, with the physics model sending your best laid plans spiraling out of control in ways that are unpredictable, but never seem unfair. When you screw up, it is always your own fault.

All that said, Team17 announced this morning that the latest version of Worms W.M.D. will be launching on Switch on November 23rd. The game will feature local multiplayer (either past-the-controller on one Switch, or link up to four), online multiplayer, and a “whole host of single player content including the Liberation and Forts Mode updates plus content from the All-Stars pack which features a blockbuster line-up of guest stars from hit games such as Rocket League, Goat Simulator, The Escapists and Yooka-Laylee.”

Other new features coming first to Switch include:

  • A brand new space theme, Wormhole
  • New Mushroom and Tree forts
  • Three new hats
  • Three new gravestones

I wonder how they are going to work Goat Simulator into the mix. Worms W.M.D. might be worth checking out just to see that.  And those three new hats! Three, folks. Three new hats.

Worms W.M.D. will be available from the Nintendo eShop for $29.99.
