Whack some chumps with shovels on Tuesday with Road Rage

Battlefront 2?  Sure.  The Sims 4?  Okay.  Skyrim VR?  Maybe.

Road Rage?  Definitely.

Buried in this weeks’ online releases for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (and getting a physical retail release) on Tuesday after over a year of delays, Maximum Games’ Road Rage takes players to the barren looking open world of Ashen City. Your character is a regular citizen, who quickly joins an “insane biker gang” and takes on missions in a variety of neighborhoods. From the looks of the video, most missions seem to consist of whacking people in the head with a variety of blunt objects. So that seems fun.

There is no doubt that this game is looking to capture some of the motorcycle mayhem that has been missing from the gaming landscape since the Road Rash series went up in smoke back in the PS1 days. Most retail sites are listing the game at $29.99, so gamers should go into this game understanding that they are not going to be seeing the production value they would get from a triple-A title. However, after watching the above video and listening to the dev-robots explain the features of the game, I’m pretty excited. I have a soft spot for weird games, and sometimes lower budget titles charm me and hold my interest far longer than their more expensive cousins. Did I mention that I beat Two Worlds? Twice?

Road Rage seems like it will deliver exactly the blend of action and cheese that I have been in the mood for lately, and even if I don’t pick it up immediately, hitting strangers with chains while zipping past on a crotch-rocket is definitely on my agenda for the near future.
